Pediatric Occupational Therapy Screenings

Supporting Your Child's Development

Is your child struggling with daily activities like dressing, writing, or focusing at school? Are you unsure what to do or where to turn?

A pediatric occupational therapy screening can help identify potential challenges early, so you can get the support they need to thrive.

Little Legends Therapy offers comprehensive pediatric occupational therapy services for children, adolescents, and young adults aged 0-21. Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities or delays. Our therapy utilizes sensory-motor and play-based interventions to improve children’s ability to perform everyday activities.

Why Choose Our Pediatric Occupational Therapy Screenings?

At Little Legends Therapy, we specialize in helping children overcome developmental obstacles through comprehensive pediatric occupational therapy screenings. Whether you’re concerned about your child’s motor skills, sensory processing, or daily life activities, our experienced team is here to guide you every step of the way.

What is a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Screening?

A pediatric OT screening is a brief evaluation that helps identify whether your child may benefit from further assessment or therapy. It involves observing your child’s ability to complete common tasks, such as:

  • Self-care (dressing, feeding, toileting)
  • Motor skills (grasping, cutting, handwriting)
  • Sensory processing (response to light, sound, textures)
  • Attention and focus

Our skilled therapists use fun, engaging activities to evaluate these areas and determine the best course of action for your child.

Signs Your Child May Need a Screening

Does Your Child Struggle With…?

  • Difficulty with fine motor tasks like holding a pencil or buttoning clothes?
  • Sensory sensitivities, such as being overly bothered by lights, sounds, or textures?
  • Delayed or inconsistent handwriting?
  • Trouble organizing tasks or following directions?
  • Lack of coordination during play or sports?
  • Poor emotional regulation leading to frequent “meltdowns” or emotional outbursts?
  • Difficulty with play and friendships?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of the above, a pediatric OT screening could provide the clarity and support you need.

Benefits of Early Intervention

Why Early Screenings Matter

Early identification of developmental concerns can make a big difference in your child’s overall growth and success. Pediatric occupational therapy can help improve:

  • Motor Skills: Enhance coordination, balance, and strength for everyday tasks.
  • Social Skills: Boost confidence in social interactions and group activities.
  • Academic Success: Improve focus, organization, and hand writing for better school performance.
  • Self-Confidence: Help your child build independence in daily activities.

Our screenings allow you to address any concerns early, ensuring your child has the tools they need to succeed at home, at school, and beyond.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does a screening session take?

A: The screening session typically lasts 25 to 30 minutes, depending on your child’s needs and age

Q: Is a referral required?

A: No, a referral is not required to schedule a screening. However, if additional therapy is recommended, you will need to contact your primary care physician, nurse practitioner, or psychiatrist to receive a referral.

Q: What should my child bring to the screening?

A: Your child does not need to bring anything special. Just bring a comfortable outfit and any relevant medical or developmental history that may help the therapist. We may email you a brief questionnaire to complete prior to the screening appointment.

Q: Does it cost money?

A: We are unable to bill insurance for a “screening” as the child does not need a referral. Our flat fee for a screen is 30.00 that can be paid via cash or check. If your child needs additional therapy, we will then receive a referral and bill insurance for ongoing therapy.
